Institutional Approach

The Australian National University (ANU) employs a comprehensive sustainability program, entitled 'Below Zero', which focuses on sustainability literacy within the university community, in addition to Net Zero and circular targets. They have an interdisciplinary School of Art and Environment Studies, which experiments with innovative approaches to sustainability education. For example, the Art-Environment Field study program at ANU engaged students and communities to develop new imaginaries of how to relate to the environment. The Field program evolved from a photography field program capturing landscape and geography, to an action-research teaching/learning program engaging external communities on environmental and sustainability issues.
