Institutional Approach

The Design Impact Transition (DIT) Hub at Erasmus University Rotterdam is an incubator aimed at challenging the status quo of a discipline-oriented, individual-focused university, and experiment with the idea of a transformative university. They conduct transformative research and transformative education, focusing on transdisciplinary, collaborative, and action-oriented academic work that explicitly aims to support societal transitions and drive Erasmus University towards a new institutional design. DIT facilitates educational and research experiments engaging the greater university to reorient the university around just, sustainable futures; via sustainability dialogues, transdisciplinary master's programs and summer schools, and research on how transdisciplinarity can be embedded in academia. Erasmus is also home to the Center for Eco-Transformation, a space for research and education around large sustainability challenges, from a management perspective. They offer a variety of educational opportunities for professionals outside of academia on sustainability transformations and social responsibility, as well as MSc level courses on sustainability leadership, and climate change strategy role-play.
