Institutional Approach

Plymouth's approach to sustainability is led by a community of practice called the Center for Sustainable Futures, embedded in all faculties, which facilitates all disciplines to incorporate sustainable development. The university embeds sustainability in all programs supported by a wide array of practical resources for lecturers and course designers, emcompassing not only classroom approaches but also extra-curricular and living lab approaches. Plymouth University is also experimenting with innovative staff training via an affiliated self-described radical institution called Schumacher College. Schumacher is a residential college for staff where they train in transformative teaching and learning for sustainability, with the aim of catalyzing change towards sustainability in the university's curriculum and pedagogy.
