Institutional Approach

The Stockholm Resilience Center is a joint initiative between Stockholm University and the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, whose mission is to advance research to ensure the maintenance of ecosystems and long-term sustainability. They operate as a visionary conductor both within parent Swedish academies as well as for global resilience research. As such, the center engages in both inter- and trans-disciplinary research, engagement with policy and practice, and academic education (PhD and MSc programs as well as undergraduate course offerings), as well as the Executive Program in Resilience Thinking, aimed at business and organisational leaders. The Center also hosts the Global Resilience Partnership, an alliance of over 60 organisations, which seeks to test distruptive ideas and interventions via on-the-ground projects and incubators, disseminate knowledge and teaching around resilience such as supporting south-south resilience academies, and engage in policy change.
