Institutional Approach

The University of Lodz, Poland, functions in close co-operation with the municipality of Lodz to promote Sustainable Development, from developing green infrastructure to sustainable policy and planning. Through partnerships with local business, central and local government institutions and NGOs, innovative joint projects are initiated aiming to redefine sustainable development, and strengthening their natural capital. These initiatives include The Blue Green Network (city-wide initiative for sustainability), Green Jewels of Lodz (botanical preservation), and River-scale Action (stormwater retention, river restoration, and recreation). There have also been initiatives by the university to legally protect green and natural areas in the city, along with influencing and steering the design of sustainable development policies and goals for the city.
